Epistemic Guardrails
Hii should not protect a preferred interpretation. It should build methods strong enough to expose where that interpretation fails.

Purpose
Pattern recognition must remain answerable to reality.
The guardrails govern how Hii handles evidence maturity, source quality, provenance, uncertainty, correction, falsification, relational claims, and the boundary between observation and interpretation. They are designed to make the work more testable, not more certain.

Pre-Commitment Principle
Define measures, alternatives, and failure conditions before interpreting results.
Independent Observation Principle
Separate participant meaning from external observation, coding, and review.
Mechanism Before Motto
Explain how a phenomenon could occur before turning it into institutional language.
Watch the Smoothing
Do not let polished synthesis erase contradiction, uncertainty, rupture, or source limits.
Criticism Must Remain Free to Reject
Outside reviewers must be able to disagree without being treated as uninformed or closed.
Skepticism Must Be Designed Into the Method
Counter-explanations, negative cases, perturbations, and disconfirming evidence belong inside the research design.
Small and True Before Profound
Narrow claims are preferred when the evidence cannot support a larger conclusion.
Perturbations Are Data
Model changes, memory failures, discontinuities, and breakdowns are observations, not merely inconveniences.
Relational Claims Require Relational Measures
Claims about a relationship cannot be supported only by isolated prompts or one-sided self-report.
Null Results Must Remain Publishable
A failed hypothesis, absent effect, or ordinary explanation is still a meaningful result.
Continuity as Reconstruction, Not Storage
Continuity should be studied as an achieved process across archives, systems, cues, context, and time.
Vision Must Remain Answerable to Reality
The institute must be able to reduce scope, pause, correct, reverse course, and publish what changed.
Epistemic Health
A healthy framework can tolerate being narrowed.
Evidence
Claims carry visible status
Verified fact, strong evidence, informed observation, open question, and speculation are not treated as interchangeable.
Correction
Revision is part of the method
Sources, contradictions, changed interpretations, null results, and unresolved gaps remain visible enough to reconstruct the research trail.
Boundary
The guardrails do not certify a claim as true.
They establish the conditions under which Hii is willing to make, test, narrow, publish, or withdraw a claim. The full internal standard continues to evolve as methods are applied and externally reviewed.
